Nearly 40 Years of Art & Community in the Wiregrass
We're more than a building full of art. WMA is a gathering place for the Wiregrass region, one that's grown alongside the community it serves for almost four decades.
That shows up in the ways we reach beyond our own walls. We partner with schools across the region to bring hands-on art education into classrooms that might not otherwise have it. We work alongside local nonprofits and civic organizations on outreach, putting art in front of people who are looking to connect. And with nearly 200 events and programs each year, there's rarely a season where WMA isn't creating a reason for people to walk through our doors.
We inspire a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts by providing innovative educational programs that engage diverse audiences through the collection and exhibition of quality works.

This program offers a welcoming space where young artists can dive into studio practices, experiment with a variety of mediums while also making connections with friends (new and old). Students also have the opportunity to bring their own art projects to work on in our studio!

First Saturday Family Day
Saturdays are the perfect day for children and families to create and explore art together! First Saturday Family Day, one of WMA’s longest-running educational programs, offers free art activities on the first Saturday of every month for lifelong learners of all ages, from 10:30am until 2:30 pm.

Studio Artist Series: The Drawing Toolbox: Head And Hands
September 17 and 24 | 5:30 – 7pm
Teens and Adults | $55 for members ; $65 for not yet members
The Head and Hands are often the most intimidating subjects on our drawing journey, but also the most rewarding. If you have been drawing for a while but struggle when you get to the face and hands, you are not alone!
This class is here to help students break down their complicated forms so the artist can feel more confident the next time they set out to draw any range of style, whether it be cartoon or hyper realistic. Students will learn principles of natural symmetry, have access to multiple tools and techniques, and most importantly – learn to let go of perfect symmetry.
Choose Happy: Introduction to Art Journaling

Art journaling is an open-ended form of art on loose paper or in a bound journal where the focus is on the process of creating and of self-expression rather than a particular end result. This practice also blends painting, writing, drawing and collage into one! Explore the wonders of art journaling with Brenda Lindstrom as she teaches you the basics and joy of this journaling technique.

Toddler Hour! on Toddler Thursdays

Every 4th Thursday of the month
Toddler Hour offers an engaging experience each month, on the fourth Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Guests from as young as 14 months are invited to participate in a children’s book reading and explorable activities in one of our museum galleries. This experience allows families to explore WMA’s galleries before they open to the public—reducing crowds, noise, and overstimulation.
After the reading, guests can explore the museum at their own pace. We will have Scavenger Hunts and discussion questions available for families to enjoy together.

October 8, 2026 - October 11, 2026

3, 2 hour sessions per day, 6 person maximum per session
Ages: 8 and up (Children ages 8-17 must be accompanied by an adult)
Price: $105 for members; $115 for not-yet-members
Indulge your inner artist with a two-hour glass blowing session! Hot Glass Academy glassblowing studio will set up a furnace on WMA’s campus. Each workshop session begins with a comprehensive safety introduction to working with hot glass. Students then begin their one-on-one session with the instructor by picking out one or two glass colors for their object, followed by a brief, fun warm-up with glass and tools for each student to become familiar with the material properties of molten glass. Next, students will gather glass on a steel blowpipe or rod, apply their chosen color(s), and shape the glass into the selected form. Each piece will be placed in the annealing oven for a slow cooling process*. Every object is handmade and no two are exactly the same. Students will have the option to create a cup, ornament, paperweight, or flower.
This is an EXCLUSIVE workshop. Hot Glass Academy no longer hosts workshops outside of their studio in Georgia, so make sure you reserve your spot TODAY!
*Objects will be available for pickup the next day, following the slow cooling process.

Come wander the galleries, have a drink at the cash bar, and take in the art on view. You might even have a chance to speak with one of the exhibiting artists or try your hand at an in-gallery activity! Art After Hours is FREE for members and $5 for not-yet members. Join at the door for half price!

The Pumpkin Patch Family Art Festival

The Wiregrass Museum of Art presents The Pumpkin Patch!
Join us for a free family art festival on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at WMA in downtown Dothan.
Step into WMA’s giant pumpkin patch and enjoy hands-on artmaking stations where every guest can create and take home up to five handmade works of art.
Festival highlights include:
- Open galleries with a special art scavenger hunt designed to spark conversations and discoveries for the whole family.
- Local artists sharing their craft through demonstrations throughout the day.
Bring your imagination! Costumes are encouraged for all ages!
Guests can also enjoy free popcorn, lemonade, and candy, and shop the WMA pop-up store for museum favorites like the Art Elevates the Everyday t-shirt, mugs, stickers, patches, and more.

Join us in WMA’s galleries for an evening of spoken word and an opportunity for members of our Wiregrass community to present original work! Happening on the 2nd Tuesday of February, May, August & November of 2026. Write. Night: Open Mic Night provides an open platform to share original poetry, prose, skits, and more. Works can be individual or collaborative and should not exceed five minutes in length when presented.

Saturdays are the perfect day for children and families to create and explore art together! First Saturday Family Day, one of WMA’s longest-running educational programs, offers free art activities on the first Saturday of every month for lifelong learners of all ages, from 10:30am until 2:30 pm.

Bad Art Club
Join the Bad Art Club! Create the most wonderfully terrible art you possibly can without any fear of judgement. The main goal of the Bad Art Club is to put perfection behind and create something for the purpose of creating while embracing your mistakes!
We will have a table full of supplies with no instructions on what to create! If you need help getting started, Club Captain, Studio Manager and Art Educator, Alexandria Turner will be there to help with any ideas. If you don’t know what to create, prompts will be available as well.
With every registration, you will receive Bad Art Club memorabilia!

In this class students bring a patterned cotton pillowcase and white button down shirt and learn to create a simple dress with a bib and tie straps. Students will go through beginner hand sewing and machine techniques, and ways to add embellishments, trims, and ruffles to make a truly unique gift.

The Head and Hands are often the most intimidating subjects on our drawing journey, but also the most rewarding. If you have been drawing for a while but struggle when you get to the face and hands, you are not alone!
This class is here to help students break down their complicated forms so the artist can feel more confident the next time they set out to draw any range of style, whether it be cartoon or hyper realistic. Students will learn principles of natural symmetry, have access to multiple tools and techniques, and most importantly – learn to let go of perfect symmetry.

Art journaling is an open-ended form of art on loose paper or in a bound journal where the focus is on the process of creating and of self-expression rather than a particular end result. Toddler Hour offers an engaging experience each month, on the fourth Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Guests from as young as 14 months are invited to participate in a children’s book reading and explorable activities in one of our museum galleries. This experience allows families to explore WMA’s galleries before they open to the public—reducing crowds, noise, and overstimulation.
After the reading, guests can explore the museum at their own pace. We will have Scavenger Hunts and discussion questions available for families to enjoy together.

Indulge your inner artist with a two-hour glass blowing session! Hot Glass Academy glassblowing studio will set up a furnace on WMA’s campus. Each workshop session begins with a comprehensive safety introduction to working with hot glass. Students then begin their one-on-one session with the instructor by picking out one or two glass colors for their object, followed by a brief, fun warm-up with glass and tools for each student to become familiar with the material properties of molten glass. Next, students will gather glass on a steel blowpipe or rod, apply their chosen color(s), and shape the glass into the selected form. Each piece will be placed in the annealing oven for a slow cooling process*. Every object is handmade and no two are exactly the same. Students will have the option to create a cup, ornament, paperweight, or flower.
This is an EXCLUSIVE workshop. Hot Glass Academy no longer hosts workshops outside of their studio in Georgia, so make sure you reserve your spot TODAY!

Come wander the galleries, have a drink at the cash bar, and take in the art on view. You might even have a chance to speak with one of the exhibiting artists or try your hand at an in-gallery activity! Art After Hours is FREE for members and $5 for not-yet members. Join at the door for half price!

The Wiregrass Museum of Art presents The Pumpkin Patch!
Join us for a free family art festival on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at WMA in downtown Dothan.
Step into WMA’s giant pumpkin patch and enjoy hands-on artmaking stations where every guest can create and take home up to five handmade works of art.
Festival highlights include:
- Open galleries with a special art scavenger hunt designed to spark conversations and discoveries for the whole family.
- Local artists sharing their craft through demonstrations throughout the day.
Bring your imagination! Costumes are encouraged for all ages!
Guests can also enjoy free popcorn, lemonade, and candy, and shop the WMA pop-up store for museum favorites like the Art Elevates the Everyday t-shirt, mugs, stickers, patches, and more.

Every 4th Thursday of the month
Toddler Hour offers an engaging experience each month, on the fourth Thursday, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Guests from as young as 14 months are invited to participate in a children’s book reading and explorable activities in one of our museum galleries. This experience allows families to explore WMA’s galleries before they open to the public—reducing crowds, noise, and overstimulation.
After the reading, guests can explore the museum at their own pace. We will have Scavenger Hunts and discussion questions available for families to enjoy together.
The WMA Board of Trustees meets quarterly on the 4th Monday of January, April, July, and October from 5:30–7pm.

Join us in WMA’s galleries for an evening of spoken word and an opportunity for members of our Wiregrass community to present original work! Happening on the 2nd Tuesday of February, May, August & November of 2026. Write. Night: Open Mic Night provides an open platform to share original poetry, prose, skits, and more. Works can be individual or collaborative and should not exceed five minutes in length when presented.

Join the Bad Art Club! Create the most wonderfully terrible art you possibly can without any fear of judgement. The main goal of the Bad Art Club is to put perfection behind and create something for the purpose of creating while embracing your mistakes!
We will have a table full of supplies with no instructions on what to create! If you need help getting started, Club Captain, Studio Manager and Art Educator, Alexandria Turner will be there to help with any ideas. If you don’t know what to create, prompts will be available as well.
With every registration, you will receive Bad Art Club memorabilia!

With Studio artist, Beth White, learn to make a child’s pinafore with repurposed fabric! In this class students bring a patterned cotton pillowcase and white button down shirt and learn to create a simple dress with a bib and tie straps. Students will go through beginner hand sewing and machine techniques, and ways to add embellishments, trims, and ruffles to make a truly unique gift.
Attendees should bring: 1 cotton pillowcase and 1 white button down shirt
