In this virtual workshop, WMA exhibiting artist Beverly West Leach will give you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of making some of her mixed media assemblages. She will walk participants through the process, starting with how something could spark inspiration to what kinds of adhesives, paint, and other odds and ends can come together to make a visual statement.
Beverly often works with collage, and in this workshop she will present various approaches to the collage process, including a little history and background about this old yet contemporary art form.
Join her (virtually) in the discussion with your own knick-knacks and other bits and pieces to share ideas about what these objects could morph into. Participants will be able to ask questions in real time as the group explores methods and approaches to creating mixed media assemblages and discovers the art of collage.
A list of suggested supplies to have on hand for the workshop:
Inexpensive objects that spark inspiration, can be left whole, if desired, or broken apart and could be collaged onto and/or painted
Cut out images from various sources that relate to your inspiration
X-Acto knife or scissors (or both)
Elmer’s glue
Modpodge
Acrylic paint (or any kind of paint) and colors you think work with your inspiration
Paint brushes
A container of water
Dishes to mix glue and/or paint
Any other bits and pieces that you think relate to your inspiration for this!
