Telling On Myself — recent works by Beverly West Leach

Many ideas and experiences influence these mixed media assemblages and collages. Experimenting with different materials ranging from the use of found images and objects, to knickknacks collected along the way, each piece depicts an assortment of my varied interests and thoughts. Combining images, objects, materials and media reflects my eclectic nature and unique point of view on life experiences. Currently my work incorporates a personal iconography of physical objects, paper ephemera and photography, each piece telling its own story.
Our memories are stored in the manner of a collage rather than through single, literal images. Much of this body of work draws upon memories of childhood, experiences as a female and the feeling of not quite fitting into the places we end up. With my work I am fixing memories, the process allows me to explore my interior world. Ideas touching on the power of nature over humans, the vastness of the universe and our place within this world reoccurs to me often.
The rhythm, flux, and flow of daily life experience intrigues me. The juxtaposition of various elements to make a whole visual statement begins with a faint or fleeting indication about something I’ve considered. My reinterpretation reflects ruminations on socially conscious messages – or sometimes not, but still pondering on our human condition and the world we move through each day.

Beverly West Leach has been a professional artist for 34 years and her work has been exhibited throughout the United States in juried exhibitions and in solo and group shows. She received a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, and an MFA from the Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania. Her work is also part of several corporate collections and The Baltimore Museum of Art Prints and Drawings Collection.
Taking an experimental and eclectic approach, Beverly’s art captures sensations, impressions and moments of thought, through the juxtaposition of a variety of elements, materials, colors, textures, and forms. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Beverly has been a beekeeper for eight years. Traveling is a passion and she has been to eleven different countries, including India, China and Iceland.
