Visit Dothan and Wiregrass Museum of Art are partnering to celebrate local artists and their creativity through a quarterly exhibit of original artworks at Visit Dothan. Create Dothan is an open call for artists in the Wiregrass area, showcasing exceptional work from our local artist community and illustrating homegrown talent and our community’s rich artistic contributions. Each quarter, Visit Dothan will display the work of a new local artist whose work aligns with the annual theme.
This year’s theme is “Colors of the Wiregrass” and artists are encouraged to submit their interpretations of the phrase. Artists may draw inspiration from the natural landscape of the region, with its mix of wildflowers, grasses and the agricultural land of peanuts and cotton. Perhaps the People of the Wiregrass shape your ideas and inspiration for the community. Or you might consider colors associated with special events across the Wiregrass, such as the National Peanut Festival or the Mardi Gras Parade. We also encourage work that utilizes a variety of art forms and media and will accept submissions of paintings, illustration, photography, mixed media, and digital art. If you have other ideas, we still want to hear from you! Maybe you will inspire new opportunities. Submissions are open to all artists living and working in Dothan and the Wiregrass over 18 years of age. All work must be original and completed within the last three years. Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend and will be eligible to participate in exclusive merchandising opportunities with Visit Dothan.
