Letter from the Director – Winter 2025

Dear Friends and Members, 

As we begin a new year at WMA, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead and gratitude for the unwavering support of our members and patrons. Your commitment to the arts has been the foundation of our success, and together, we’ve built a vibrant cultural community. This year, we’re thrilled to bring you an array of new exhibitions and engaging programs and events 

I’m glad to announce the reopening of our downstairs galleries, marking a fresh chapter after their closure due to flooding in September. The reopening of the downstairs galleries allows us to reintroduce these beautiful spaces with new exhibitions that celebrate the diversity and creativity from our permanent collection, featuring nationally recognized artists and talents from right here in the Wiregrass region. Among the highlights is an exciting exploration of works inspired by American landscapes, as well as a selection of works from WMA’s Studio Artists. Each project that WMA presents ensures that our museum remains a mirror of our community’s stories and experiences.

We’re also excited to present events like Art in Bloom this quarter, an enchanting celebration inspired by our permanent collection. This event will pair stunning floral or sculptural arrangements alongside the artwork that inspired them, bringing new life and perspective to the works you love. Beyond this, our classes and workshops promise something for everyone—from budding artists to seasoned creators. A cornerstone of our programming this year will be the annual workshop series with Hot Glass Academy, offering the unique opportunity to work with glass and to participate in an experience truly unforgettable.

Your museum is more than a place to view art; it’s a hub for connection, learning, and inspiration. Our programs are designed to engage the entire community, from school field trips and free Family Day activities to professional development for educators and outreach with local organizations across the region. Each visit, event, and program is a reminder of how art enriches lives and fosters a sense of belonging. We hope you’ll take advantage of these opportunities and invite your friends and family to join you.
