Letter from the Director – Summer 2024

Dear Friends and Members,

We are thrilled to share with you an exciting summer schedule at WMA. This summer promises to be one of our most dynamic seasons yet, filled with enriching programs and engaging events for our community. From stimulating summer camps to inspiring new exhibitions, WMA is buzzing with activity and creativity and we are eager to welcome you and your families to experience all that we have to offer.

Our summer camps are in full swing, designed to ignite
the imaginations of young artists and provide them with hands-on learning opportunities. These camps are more than just a place to create art; they are a nurturing environment where children can explore their creativity, develop new skills, and form lasting friendships.

In partnership with local youth organizations, we are extending our reach to ensure that children from all backgrounds have access to these transformative experiences by partnering with area organizations for off site camps and to provide hundreds of art kits to the community. Many thanks to the Wiregrass Foundation for supporting these efforts, along with scholarships to each of our camps. We are also delighted to announce the opening of B24: Wiregrass Biennial, a remarkable exhibition featuring 42 talented artists from eight states across the Southeast. This exhibition is a testament to WMA’s commitment to showcasing diverse artistic voices and fostering a vibrant arts community.

The Biennial offers a unique opportunity to see a wide range of contemporary art, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of our region. We invite you to immerse yourself in this exceptional display of creativity and innovation. As leaders in the arts, WMA takes pride in our role as an educational organization that lays the foundation for art education and continued support of artists at all stages of their careers. Our programs and exhibitions are designed to inspire, educate, and engage both our local community and visitors from afar. We believe that art has the power to transform lives, and we are dedicated to making art accessible to everyone. Our ongoing community outreach initiatives and partnerships with schools and organizations are crucial in achieving this mission.

I’m sure many of you have noticed the construction downtown, and adjacent to WMA, but rest assured, we are open for business! Amidst the exciting growth of downtown, WMA remains a steadfast cultural cornerstone. We are committed to caring for our collections and ensuring their preservation for future generations. We encourage you to visit us this summer, explore our new exhibitions, and participate in our programs. Your continued support is vital to our success and allows us to keep bringing the arts to the forefront of our community.

Thank you for being an integral part of WMA!

We look forward to seeing you soon, and often.
